Examination Centres

Supporting Your Examination Journey

At Wrenmere International Online School, we understand that arranging examinations can feel unfamiliar, particularly for students studying online, homeschooling, or entering as private candidates.

Our experienced team is here to make the process as straightforward and reassuring as possible, helping families understand their options, identify suitable examination centres, and prepare confidently for examination day. Whether you are studying with Wrenmere or independently, we are committed to ensuring every student has access to internationally recognised qualifications through trusted examination providers.

Finding the Right Examination Centre

Students completing qualifications as private candidates are required to sit their examinations at an approved examination centre. Depending on your location and chosen qualification, this may be an independent school, college, specialist examination centre, or another approved provider authorised to accept private candidates.

At Wrenmere International Online School, we welcome students from across the United Kingdom and around the world. As our learners are based in many different locations, we do not operate a dedicated examination centre, as this would be impractical for the vast majority of families.

Instead, we support students in locating an approved examination centre that is convenient for their location, allowing them to complete their examinations closer to home.

Please note that examination centre fees are not included within our tuition fees. These charges are set independently by each examination centre and may vary depending on the qualification, examination board, and services provided.

Choosing an Exam Centre

Examination centres are approved and administered by the relevant awarding organisations and examination boards. While we are pleased to provide guidance throughout the process, the availability of centres, subjects, examination dates, and entry policies are managed independently by each centre.

For this reason, we strongly encourage families to begin exploring examination centre options as early as possible. Contacting centres well in advance allows you to confirm that they are suitable for your child.

Early planning provides peace of mind and helps ensure there is sufficient time to complete registration before the published examination deadlines.

Our Recommendations

Finding the right examination centre is often one of the most important stages of preparing for external examinations, and taking a little time at the beginning can make the process significantly easier.

We recommend using the official examination board search tools to identify centres within a comfortable travelling distance. As availability can differ between centres, it is often helpful to search neighbouring towns or cities as well as your immediate area.

Once you have identified several suitable centres, we recommend contacting each one directly to confirm that they:

  • Accept private candidates

  • Offer your chosen qualifications and subjects

  • Have places available for the relevant examination series

  • Can accommodate any approved access arrangements, where applicable

Although formal examination registration usually takes place several months before the examination series, establishing your preferred examination centre early in your studies allows you to plan with confidence.

Centre Searches

Cambridge Exam centres

This search will help you find centres for the Cambridge IGCSE & A-level. Please make sure the centre accepts private candidates. In the past, we have found that sometimes the details of whether a centre accepts private candidates or not is out of date, so you can always contact any centre to ask.

Pearson Edexcel Centres

This website is a UK centre search for private candidates for all exam boards. In the search, select "OTHER" for IGCSE & international A-level. Once you have found centres, check their details to make sure they offer IGCSE & international A-level.

This website searches for Pearson Edexcel centres Internationally. Once you have found a centre, make sure they offer the qualifications you are looking for, as well as accept private candidates.

Preparing Your Examination Entry

Once your examination centre has been confirmed, the next step is to identify the correct syllabus or specification codes for each subject you intend to study. These codes can be found on the relevant awarding organisation's website or, for enrolled Wrenmere students, within the student learning platform.

Our academic team is always pleased to provide guidance if you are unsure which specification or examination code applies to your chosen course.

Considering Remote Examinations?

For eligible Pearson Edexcel International GCSE and International A Level qualifications, students may also have the opportunity to complete their examinations through secure remote invigilation, allowing them to sit selected examinations from home without attending a traditional examination centre.

Remote examinations provide greater flexibility for many families while maintaining the same high standards of security, academic integrity, and assessment expected by the awarding organisation. They can be an excellent option for international students, home-educated learners, or those who may find travelling to an examination centre more challenging.

Our Admissions Team will be pleased to discuss whether remote examinations are available for your chosen subjects and advise on the most appropriate examination pathway for your individual circumstances.

We're Here to Help

While examination centres operate independently, our Admissions and Academic Teams are always happy to guide families through the process, answer questions about examination entry, explain qualification requirements, and help students prepare for successful examination registration.

From your first enquiry through to examination day, we are committed to supporting every learner with the personalised guidance and reassurance that defines a Wrenmere education.
